Are you are an undergraduate student with a federal work-study award? Would you be interested in assisting with faculty research for your work-study employment? If so, the Work-Study Research Assistant Program can help connect you to available research opportunities on campus.

Why Research?

There are many reasons to consider pursuing a position as a research assistant. Participation in undergraduate research is one way to explore your academic interests, learn about how research is conducted at the university, and build transferable skills useful in a range of fields. How Can I Apply?

If you have a federal work-study award for 2019-20, apply for one of the research job postings in the JobX system. You may apply to more than one posting if it aligns with your goals and interests. Please follow the specifications of the posting and upload all requested information (e.g., resume, cover letter, availability, references). Only applications from undergraduate students with work-study awards will be considered.

Applications are currently being accepted for all of the positions below with a status of “open.” As applications are being reviewed on an ongoing basis, you are encouraged to apply for all positions that interest you as soon as possible. Please check this page regularly as additional positions may be added through the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester. Students with Spring 2020 work-study awards must secure a job by early February (date TBD) or their awards will be canceled.

Interested in Soc Justice? Try Alternative Break!

Want to engage in meaningful service? Interested in social issues such as homelessness, urban poverty, cultural preservation, environmental conservation, and more?

Apply to an Alternative Break! During these week-long and weekend-long alternative break trips, students will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful service surrounding the trip topics. Students will have pre-trip educational meetings, on-trip reflection, and post-trip reflection meetings.

10/17 – 10/18 Southern New England Planning Association Regional Conf.

The Southern New England American Planning Association (SNEAPA) Regional Conference is a great opportunity for students to volunteer, share their research, and network with planning professionals. The conference is hosted by the Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts chapters of the American Planning Association and is scheduled for October 17th and 18th 2019 at the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield. The conference draws nearly 600 planners, landscape architects, architects, engineers, and academics and features two days of high quality, hands-on and interactive sessions, mobile workshops, planning law and planning ethics presentations.

Students can be involved in SNEAPA in the following ways:

  • Volunteer – Free Registration is available for up to 14 student volunteers each day on a first come, first served basis. In exchange for free registration, volunteers will assist in collecting lunch tickets, aiding speakers with handouts or other tasks, and provide other conference support as needed.  Interested students should email planningstudent@gmail.com ASAP.
  • Present Research – Up to 7 students will have the opportunity to present their research at the Student Research Session on Friday, October 18th from 1:45-3:00 pm.
  • Network – The SNEAPA Mentoring Lunch on Thursday, October 17th at 1:00 pm provides an informal setting for students to interact with established planning professionals
