The Town of Berlin is seeking applicants for a temporary support staff position in the Planning and Zoning Department. Duties will include general office work, including interaction with the public, logging of applications, utilization of departmental software system and file maintenance.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
• Daily contact with the public on zoning requirements and procedures.
• Advising public and review of permit plans for basic zoning compliance.
• Zoning enforcement investigations.
• Log and monitor status of zoning complaints.
• Logging zoning applications into permitting software.
• Familiarity with Land Records and property cards to verify submitted information.
• General office work including filing, preparation of mailings, copying, … etc.
• Preference for familiarity with architectural and engineering scales and ability to read plot plans.
• Daily use of GIS software.
• File maintenance and organization skills desirable as the department moves to digitize records.
• Website monitoring to assist with regular updating of posted information.
• Other tasks and responsibilities to be assigned as needed or based on experience and capabilities including possible attendance at evening meetings.
SPECIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS: Education or experience in enforcement or land use preferred. Experience with computerized file maintenance and/or permitting software is desirable. The ideal candidate will have public interaction experience and be able to read and explain a plot plan as it relates to zoning. Zoning or enforcement experience is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is regular office environment. There may be some walking, standing, stooping, carrying of items such as papers, books, or small parts, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
UNION AFFILIATION: This is a temporary non-exempt non-union position.
