Charles Kaye-Essien

Visiting Assistant Professor

Public Policy


Charles Kaye-Essien will be a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Policy at the University of Connecticut as of August 23, 2021. He is currently an Assistant Professor and MPA Advisor at the School of Global and Public Policy, American University in Cairo-Egypt. His research interests lie at the intersection of public management and urban governance, with special focus at the state and municipal levels. His current research examines policy mobilities in contemporary urban development, municipal performance management, urban food governance and sustainability systems.

Charles’ work has been published in a variety of journals, including the International Public management Journal, International Journal of Public Sector Management, the Journal of Asian and African Affairs, Urban Forum, and the International Development Planning Review.   He is a DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) scholar with a Ph.D. in Urban & Public Affairs from the University of Louisville, an MPA from The University of the Western Cape, an MA in Development Management from the Ruhr University of Bochum and a B.Sc. in Urban Planning from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Ghana.

His practitioner experience includes services as a social/environmental impact assessment consultant in Ghana, a research associate at NextStep Network in Kentucky and policy consultant to UNICEF Egypt.
