Summer Internships at the Republican-American Newspaper

The award-winning, punch-above-our-weight Republican-American of Waterbury, Conn. seeks two summer 2021 news interns. Reporters, copy editors and photographers who share our drive to be accurate, ethical, engaging, unique and vital to the communities we serve are welcome to apply.

Bring your desire to work hard while learning how to report, shoot and edit with clarity and purpose across multiple platforms. We treat our interns as staffers and help them climb as high as they are able. They live up to a high bar: Past rep-am interns have carried front pages, produced special projects and videos, and built portfolios worthy of any first-year reporter looking to stand out in the field. These paid internships run up to 15 weeks and are available starting May 1; exact schedule may depend on the state of the pandemic this summer. All beats are general assignment; schedule depends on your editor’s needs. Requirements include experience on a college newspaper or a previous internship; an insured car and a driver’s license from your state of residence; a mobile phone with camera and/or camera equipment, a desire to learn. You’ll need to find a place to live. Email a letter telling us why you should land one of these competitive spots; at least three clips; and any photo or video samples with RA News Intern in your subject line. Deadline to apply: Feb. 1.
